GETTING IT OUT THERE Once you’re ready to share your work with the world, turn your manuscript into a beautiful ebook or PDF, export to Word, or simply print it out. You can even share using different formatting, so that you can write in your favorite font and still keep your editor happy. Scrivener’s users include best-selling novelists, screenwriters, students, academics, lawyers, journalists and translators. It won’t tell you how to write—it just provides everything you need to start writing and keep writing. Numerous minor enhancements and bug fixes to Compile. ePub 3 and KF8 formats now support underlines without needing to use styles.
ePub 3 and KF8 now support the “Transformations” options pane in Compile for converting italics to underlines (and vice versa) and converting smart punctuation to dumb punctuation. You can now set images inserted using the $img tag to use a percentage size in ebooks using the new “ebook” placeholder tag (see Help List of All Placeholders for details). Tabbed windows are now restored when Scrivener is reopened (and Quick Reference panels remember their tabbed states per-project). When loading a Copyholder by Option-dropping, if you hold down Option at the start of the drag in the binder, the Copyholder will now get the focus. (Only hold down Option on drop to leave the focus as it was.).
Either Option or Command can now be used to open comments in a popover instead of the Inspector (since Option-clicks do not work on all systems). Added option to turn off border to current line highlight. If any Preferences Themes are saved, a “Themes” submenu now appears in the “Scrivener” menu, allowing you to switch between themes more easily. There are now more options available when saving a Preferences theme. It is now possible, for instance, to save a theme that only affects Composition mode colours, or a theme that affects everything else except Composition mode colours.

Nov 20, 2017 - Today, Literature and Latte released version 3.0 of Scrivener for macOS with a long list of new features that cements its spot as one of the premier project-focused apps available on the Mac for long-form writing. Scrivener isn't just for book writers, but the features that cater to them are what sets the app.
Full width labels in the binder no longer span the entire width of the binder, but are indented and more like the Scrivener 2 labels. When Ctrl-clicking on the Trash folder in the binder, a minimal menu is now shown that includes “Empty Trash”. When opening the tutorial project, Scrivener will now prompt you to update it if there is a newer version of the tutorial available. (This will take effect for future tutorial updates.). Added a “Convert Markdown” option to Import & Split, which converts all Markdown to rich text for the imported documents.
When a group higher up in the hierarchy determines the “Structure-Based” Section Type via its “Default Subdocument Type” setting, this is now indicated in brackets after “Structure-Based” in the menu. Eaglepup I have been using Scrivener for a couple years now, and love the way I can organize things within the app. I like to use one file for each set of related stories, and it easily lets me both write my novels and look up any notes. Importing my version 2 file into version 3 was easy, and I haven't seen any problems using it on my mac. I love the bookmark features in version 3, but wish there was a setting to always “open in other editor” from the drop down menu. It would make things faster for those of us with poorer eyesight as the window provided is just too small to read most things.

Flytriguy I have used Scrivener for several years now. All my work is in Scrivener and I will continue to use in the future. For having to pay, basically having to buy the program again, there didn’t seem to be any feature improvements warranting the fee, I just assumed the work was in the background and I would benefit in other ways once I started using the program. Much to my disappointment, I have yet to see any of the “new”, “improved” benefits.
On the contrary, I now have a very frustrating and quirky sync problem with DropBox, where the program is unable to display a file downloaded from DB until you click on the desktop (to go back to Finder) and then click back on the Scrivener icon. To be clear, all other functionality seems to work as normal, and none of my data was corrupted or damaged. It’s just frustrating to have to go through that back and forth exercise on my Mac. I have reached out to L&L support, they acknowledge the issue stating “a few of our users are expereincing” but I suspect more than just a few. This same issue is all over their message board as well. BUT, THAT BEING SAID, Scrivener is still a great program and I will continue to use it.
Once they get this quirk fixed, all will be well. You mentioned getting in touch with us, if we haven't updated you on the situation, this bug you are referring to has already been figured out and fixed for the next update.
We do try to keep people posted on the status of a bug as we learn of it, and what we learn might change as time goes. What starts as a few reports may swell to many, and what was once mysterious may eventually become obvious with understanding. I consider that an ethical and good approach to take-you seem to disagree, and that's fine, but I figured you should at least know where we stand on the matter. ¶ Meanwhile, I would advise you not keep your automated backups in the same folder as your working projects. That's a bad idea in general, and Scrivener tries to warn you of this if you try. In this case the warning method it uses was broken in a recent macOS update-and that's in all likelihood the bug you are seeing. ¶ Lastly, as to improvements, when you have some spare time, I'd recommend going through the tutorial in the help menu, which has a 'what's new' collection in it, and also the user manual has a more thorough appendix going over the major changes.
As always, in major updates we strive to keep the interface familiar so that the habits and rituals you have cultivated over years are not disrupted. The only complaint I have is that when importing Scrivner 2 projects it was a disaster. It was a disaster on my Mac, my iPad, my iPhone, and Dropbox. Once i finally sorted it all out I had lost two projects and precious time. For a group that can build this amazing app, surely you can make the whole syncing process and the import and conversion of Scrivner 2 projects a smoother process. I'm very sorry to hear that. Scrivener 3 does update the file format, as you found, but I was very careful to ensure this wouldn't lose work. A back-up of the original 2.x file should be made in the same folder when the project is updated, but sandboxing on the App Store might scupper that unless you give Scrivener access to the folder via Scrivener Authorize Folder Access.
